I applied for a residency at a humor writer’s workshop. Well, not just any humor writer’s workshop, but the humor writer’s workshop.
Two people will be selected, and they will stay after the conference for two weeks, to meet and be awkward with important people and to work on a project.
Do I think I’ll be selected? Absolutely not. The application asks you to summarize prior published works of humor — hmmm, legal briefs and human resource policies? And when I look at the resumes of the folks selected in years past, well it’s like the song, “Which one of these is not like the other?”
But I have to start somewhere, so there we go. Fingers crossed. I would be thrilled with an honorable mention. To be mentioned honorably, well of course, I would be honored.
