You may recall that at the beginning of the year, I posted my 2020 writing goals–here’s the link if you missed them: 2020 Goals. It’s time to see how I fared on those.
And, of course, it’s time to announce my writing goals for 2021–because without goals, the likelihood of my doing anything but finish the new season of America’s Next Top Model is about zero.
So, for the 2020 review:
1. Finish up The Second City’s Satire 2 Class: Done!
And I did Satire 3 too, and so, so many more classes and conferences. I like school, so I overachieved on this one.
2. Get 8 pieces published: Done!
Again, because I tend to get a bit obsessive (really? you didn’t know that?), I killed this goal too, with 25! pieces published during the year.
A few of my very favorites, if you missed them:
I’m Sending You Thoughts And Prayers, So You Should Be All Set Now
Submission Guidelines for Your Prayer Requests to God
I Am Your Migraine, and I’m Just Here for a Quick Visit
Hey Harper’s, I Aged Up Your Spring Trend List for You
List: Things My 16-Year-Old Is Capable and Seemingly Incapable of Doing
.
3. Complete manuscript of book and be in position to start trying to get it published: Also done!
This whole book publishing process is crazy. You can’t get a book traditionally published without an agent. And getting an agent ain’t an easy thing. But I’m ready to start trying.
-Oh, and remember how I asked for beta readers and so many of you kindly agreed? I chickened out. I decided it might be better to receive early feedback from people I don’t know, just in case they, y’know, hate it. Besides, if all of my friends read the book in draft, who will be left to buy the darned thing?
4. Continue actively with blog, posting at least once per week: Whoops! This I did not do.
But don’t you think “once per week” was overly ambitious? Who would have wanted to hear from me weekly anyway?
So now the moment no one has been waiting for…
.
My 2021 writing goals:
There, I’ve done it. Now that I’ve put them out there, I’m stuck following through with them.
Okay friends, let’s all move forward to a better and healthier year.
Love you all, and on to 2021.
